The Runway Sniper #11

Burberry Prosum Spring Summer 2009 Menswear

A collection rich in outerwear. From trenches, coats to jackets, models strut down the runway in outwear of a myriad of colours, moss, stone, peat, bark, and pewter, all based upon the hues of nature. Christopher Bailey imagined his collection to be based on the late artist/filmmaker Derek Jarman in his garden at Dungeness, a hardscrabble stretch of English seaside perched next to a nuclear reactor.

Layered under the outwear were scoop neck tops, wool gauze tees and crinkled shirts for which the designer explained he wanted to let the air in to the skin below. :-P How thoughful. Christopher Bailey also called his pieces 'Crumpled Classics', which explains why the clothes has a certain used and vintage flavour, pieces that acquired a life thru being worn and loved.

I love the long cardigans, the crinkled and washed effects on the clothes. The style is natural, not deliberate. As for footwear, the patent captoe lace ups is brilliant. Man bags are also another constant in the show. 'Birkin' style oversized bags, canvas totes(some with croc leather trim) all adds up to another brilliant collection from Burberry Prosum.
