The Material Boy #153

Gucci Tri-Colour Wingtip Lace Ups

It's been a while since I blog about an item of Gucci that I love. No, the leather jackets I blogged about recently was an unattainable love. So that does not count. And I will never spent SGD$10,000 on a leather jacket that goes out of style in six months. For that matter, anything that is so easily off trend.

But this pair of tri-colour lace ups by Gucci for fall winter 2008/2009 is a different story. I love the purple version! Love the combination of colours. It's classic and yet quirky with a splash of colour. The nice wing tip and brogue style design is perfect for those dressy occassions.

I doubt here in Singapore, we will ever see the likes of something this 'colourful' in the stores. The customer base of Gucci in Singapore seems to be the uncles and brand wannabes who wants huge logos. The buyer just conveniently assumes everyone else follows, I think. They bring in the worst looking items of the seasonal collection. It is always a disappointment to shop runway looks in Gucci Singapore. Hopefully that will change for Spring Summer 2009, cos' that is a season that I absolutely see myself liking many things.

Meanwhile, some colour to lighten up the sombre mood of winter with this 'cute and serious' lace ups:-)

Who's That 'Gal'?

Little 'Miss' Muscle Hunky Korean Model

In continuation to Cole Mohr in a Marc By Marc Jacobs dress...here's the Korean's take on the 'cross dressing' style at the Koreans' M By MJ runway show.

I think this looks horrible on this butch muscle guy. (Not that he is ugly...) Even for any guy for that matter. At least, choose someone more petite and androgynous for the part. Oh well, fashion impact for the shows. It does spice things up for conversation afterwards. Whoever tried out this look, send me a pic. I admire your courage:-P But definitely not my cup of tea.

(I wonder how the Korean model feel about wearing this walking down the runway in front of so many people. He still managed pull off that sultry model stance...amazing!)

Anyone dare to try?

My Shopping Conquest #23

Marc By Marc Jacobs Cotton And Cashmere Blend Purple Trim Cardigan
(Reveal from 'What A Rainy Day Of Shopping...')

Yes, it's a Marc purchase again, from 2 Saturdays ago. I cannot seem to explain why I am so fascinated with Marc Jacob's designs lately. I just 'switched fashion allegiance' from Gucci and Balenciaga to Marc, I am a 'traitor'!

So for fall winter 2008/2009 season, Marc By Marc Jacobs to Louis Vuitton, I am shopping almost everything by him now. BTW, I was going to do the Louis Vuitton reveal today, but I had to do my workout and it's late by the time I am done. Tired from a long day of work, I decided to postpone it and instead show this purchase from Blackjack:-)

The story starts with me first catching sight of this Marc By Marc Jacobs Cotton And Cashmere Blend Purple Trim Cardigan at Blackjack (Yes, they stock Marc By Marc Jacobs items too, but slightly different range) which incidentally was also the shopping trip I spotted my Tsumori Chisato shirt. I was immediately attracted by the bright purple trim on the cardigan when I tried it on. And against the charcoal grey overall colour tone, it is both basic and fun:-P Can wear for many seasons to come! Longevity is a key consideration for my recent shopping trips.

To prevent making an impulsive purchase, I asked the helpful SAs in Blackjack to reserve the cardigan for 3 days so as to allow me ample time to consider. In my mind, I have already fallen in love with the cardigan, just that I was not prepared to spend the amount that this cardigan cost at that moment. The price is kinda high to be honest. (I was 'stingy' that Sat.) Plus, I was also worried about dry cleaning the fine knitted garment since dry cleaners here in Singapore are very careless! So time to think was a sensible move.

The following Thursday, I got the Tsumori Chisato shirt first, but asked to extend the reservation period at Blackjack so I can make a decision that weekend. I dunno why I did that when I knew I will buy it. Maybe it is just to comfort me that I am not over spending since I just bought the Tsumori shirt:-) Self consolation. It works! Hehe.

In the end, on that fateful, rainy Sat, after getting my Lanvin brooch and subsequent shopping spree, this cardigan came home with me. It is so soft and lightweight, yet warm enough for the recent rainy days. The purple trim along the buttons is also treated with a resin coating which is really interesting and special:-P Perfect for a geeky look, ala schoolboy chic?:-P Am I too old for that? #$%*&#...What the heck, I just love the cardigan! And I love Marc!

Linda Farrow x Bernhard Willhelm Plastic Sunglasses

I was doing my rounds of online window shopping and I was almost going to give up when I spotted this. There was seriously a lack of things that I find interesting to blog about tonight except this cool pair of Linda Farrow x Bernhard Willhelm Gold Sunglasses. Another designer collaboration with Linda Farrow, this time with the strange and totally directional Bernhard Wilhelm. These gold shades with yellow lenses are not your typical sunglasses. It resembles a mask more than a pair of sunglasses. I feel a superhero vibe with the design, especially when the front area is moulded to fit the contours of your nose. So cool! Green Lantern? Green Hornet? can you see the resemblance? Oh wow...I love it! This is definitely cutting edge and never seen before. And at UK $75 pounds, it is not too bad a price to own a piece of one-off quirky design.

Will you wear something like that? I might just take on a superhero alter ego if I have this pair of sunglasses:-P What will I name myself? The 'Bag' Man?:-) Superhero Bags Extraordinaire. No bag shopping is too tough for this 'bag' wonder:-P I just know I will look cool with this pair of sunglasses. Clothes and accessories does make the hero:-P

What superhero do you think you will be?:-)

Meanwhile, fellow superheroes, it's time for me to 'rescue' the world from ugly bags in my dreams....zzzzzzzz
