It's Party At The Dolce & Gabbana 'Club'!

It's been a busy weekend. I have a friend visiting (who accompanied me to the party:-p) from Switzerland so I was busy showing him around over Sat and had to delay this post. But now I am back! So here's the pictures of Friday night's Dolce & Gabbana Ion Orchard Store opening!

The evening started with a heavy downpour, but that did not dampen the spirits of all Dolce & Gabbana fans who turn up for the opening. Everyone was in high spirits, many were decked out from head to toe in gorgeous Dolce & Gabbana pieces, it's a treat for the eyes. It's a congregation of the beautiful people! The whole Dolce & Gabbana shop space on the ground level was emptied of merchandise and converted into a club like atmosphere to allow the fashionable guests to mingle, drink and party! Adjourning the shop front was a massive enclosed room, specially built to be transformed into a 'Dolce & Gabbana' lounge bar and club, decked with a bar counter (Woohoo!), and DJ booth. A glittering disco ball hangs proudly from the ceiling to coerce everyone into grooving mood! There were also generous free flow of champagne all night with delicious canapes to match.

Amongst the most memorable 'glitterati' who attended the opening party was top super male model and the gold standard of the male adonis, David Gandy! (Oh my god, he is one hottie to swoon over any boy or girl with his unmatched good looks. David was friendly and obliging as I requested 2 times to take a pic with him after a blurry shot on the first attempt. David simply look smart and dandy in his 3 piece Dolce & Gabbana suit. Immaculate.) Besides super gorgeous hunk from overseas, we also have Singapore's favourite Polo boy, Nat Ho (Looking cute with his bowtie!) making an appearance. Denise Keller, the super chic, super friendly and super beautiful celebrity and model was also present and was my first successful 'star gazing' attempt for a picture:-P Thanks Denise! Her stunning red dress definitely steals the limelight from everyone else in the room. Other familiar faces, include Zoe Tay (looking beautiful as always) and Celia Teh.

All the guests partied hard till late to the music, booze and 'people watching'. Indeed a night to remember for Dolce & Gabbana's opening event! Congrats and thanks for the invite, Club 21!

Project Runway Episode 11: Best of the Not So Best

This week’s episode starts off with Christopher waxing philosophic about how the judges used to love his designs and now all they do is complain, they just don’t get his runway visions. Dear delusional Christopher: they do get it, your stuff is mostly pretty fug….Well brace yourselves dear Project Runway viewers, there are six designers and only one challenge left after this, and I’m still not sure which incompetent designer will be heading to Bryant Park thanks to some stellar irrational judging this season! There’s no question that Althea, Irina, and Carol Hannah all deserve to be in the top three, but whether design-challenged Gordana, repeat ‘bottom-two’ designer Christopher, or uninspired hot mess Logan will show at Fashion Week still remains to be seen…

It seems to be backwards day on Project Runway as the designers are presented with their new challenge while facing backwards. And hey, hasn’t Heidi worn that dress before? Anyways, Heidi wheels in their surprise in the form of dress forms displaying the designers’ best looking pieces from previous challenges, and they must create a companion piece that best compliments their original look, kinda like building a collection. Hmm, that sounds pretty boring, however maybe the point is to weed out the best from the not so best. For instance, Logan’s best look was a gown of cheap grey fabric and a single diagonal zipper, so Logan proceeded to purchase 40 zippers from Mood. Good luck.
Back in the workroom the air is filled with a little more competitive tension than usual. First Logan tells an unimpressed Althea that the pants she has draped look like Malvin’s pregnancy-chic ‘egg’ pants which got him eliminated in Episode 2. Then Althea secretly accuses Logan of stealing her ideas as his heavily zipped collar looks very much like one of her previous designs. I need to point out that in addition to Christopher, Logan is also delusional as he's confident he should show at Fashion Week because he has such a strong point of view. Wait, I’m sorry but I can’t remember any point of any of his views yet…

It’s Critique time and Tim helps Carol Hannah make some magic with a fabric addition suggestion. I can tell he really respects her as a designer. It’s really sweet and I’m jealous. Meanwhile Tim thinks Althea’s pants “look like they’re waiting for a diaper,” and Tim tells Christopher that his dress looks like the mother of his much younger winning dress from Episode 1. As Irina puts it perfectly: “Why is one dress throwing up the other?”

Talented Christopher at work on way too many petals

It’s Runway time and why on earth is Heidi wearing silver Bermuda shorts? Nick Verreos (PR alum and former host of my design school’s fashion show) and actress Kerry Washington (Why, why are you a fashion judge? Especially when we all know you have a stylist???) are this week’s judges, and all I’m saying is Michael better be back for next week’s final judging. Or else. So we begin with Logans’ zipper fest which is just tacky and overkill. Nina thinks it looks like an unflattering student fashion project while Nick envisions Judy Jetson. Irina’s tapestry dress and oversized camel sweater has a bit of the ‘unexpected’ but it’s oh so glam and very Aspen luxe. Meanwhile Gordana’s grey jacket with darts looks depressing as hell. She even managed to make her gorgeous Israeli model Matar look like Former U.S. President Grover Cleveland's wife Frances. Nina thinks the overall look is outdated and uninspiredly opposite from her original edgy and youthful look. By opposite I mean on a completely separate planet, filled with downers.

Carol Hannah’s cute cocktail dress with youthful oversized pockets is super chic and reminds Nick of Ava Gardner. Back on the ranch, Christopher’s dress is a tasteless disaster of Little House on the Prairie meets your wedding cake, with 3000 petals on top. Nina thinks it looks like a carnival float and the rest of the judges see two different gowns in one, one being a bed skirt. On a good note Heidi loooooves Althea’s sack-waisted pants and saggy oversized sweater look, which Irina then accuses Althea of copying from her Episode 10 Aspen winning look. Irina, you know there CAN be more than one sweater in this competition……

Christopher's original dress and 'inspired look'

Althea's Winning Design

I think the winning look really belonged to either Irina or Carol Hannah, but Heidi almost fell off her chair raving about Althea’s baggy outfit, so yes Althea is the Winner this week! In the bottom two are Gordana and Logan, and don’t even get me started on Christopher. Yes I know, he’s still in this competition. Can someone please call his parents to come pick him up already? Now for this week’s loser: Logan is finally OUT. Sorry Logan, you’re cute and all but you’ve put me to sleep more times than I can remember with your super blah designs and major lack of vision. It’s really too bad they couldn’t kick off Logan, Christopher, and Gordana all at once, kinda like an airline companion package. Three for the price of one……

DG Ion Orchard Store Opening #02

The Calmness Before The Party Frenzy...

I was just at Orchard Road (since I am on half day leave) to get my weekly brain food (magazines!) and I saw this. Exciting... Dolce & Gabbana Ion Orchard has blocked off their entrance to the store and built a huge black covered room in front. Workers are still putting finishing touches to the structure. Looking all ready for a mega affair later. Who will attend? Will Mr Dolce and Gabbana be there? Grrr...I am excited. Can't wait for tonight.

Time to drink drink drink and of course bring you guys the happenings at the event!

HRH The Prince Of Wales Officially Opens Burberry Global Headquarters

A royal honour befitting of a world class luxury brand! On 29th October (yes, It's my birthday too! How coincidental:-P), Burberry had the pleasure of welcoming HRH The Prince of Wales to officially open the new Burberry global headquarters at Horseferry House in Westminster.

"We are honoured that he will officially inaugurate the building and take the time to meet the amazing team. It is a privilege to share Burberry's unique heritage and strategic vision as we continue to expand and celebrate our Britishness around the world." said Angela Ahrendts, Burberry Chief Executive.

Burberry design teams took HRH The Prince of Wales through the latest collections including innovations of the classic Burberry trench coat and trademark check. The visit also included a presentation of the brand’s latest digital innovations including a demonstration of the new Burberry digital platform artofthetrench.com.

Led by Christopher Bailey, the dynamic interior of Horseferry House has been designed with reference to the quintessentially British values that the brand represents.

To commemorate his visit, HRH The Prince of Wales was presented with a gabardine walking jacket made at the Burberry outerwear factory in Castleford, North Yorkshire and an iconic trademark check cashmere scarf made in Elgin, Scotland.

A well deserving royal recognition for Burberry. Congrats Burberry! Hope to visit the building again soon. It was such a great experience to be in the building at the recent Burberry After Show party. Impressive space for an even more impressive team of creative minds who gave us immaculate designs.

Kevin Goes To Hong Kong: LG's New Chocolate Phone Launch Event

I am in! I got my invitation to be flown to Hong Kong next Wednesday (together with our beloved Bagaholicboy and another Singapore blogger, Fash-Eccentric) for LG's launch of the NEW CHOCOLATE PHONE. I first blogged about this phone a couple of months back here and here, and now it is finally time for this baby to meet the world! The launch event will take place on 4th Nov 2009, at the Four Seasons Hotel, Hong Kong.

Always nice to get invited to major events such as these, especially all the way to Hong Kong with stars like Lin Chi Ling (Taiwanese Model and actress of movie 'Red Cliff') , Nadya Hutagulang (Ex MTV VJ) and the cast of the movie Avatar gracing the occasion. Will definitely capture all the memorable moments and share it here.

Thank you LG! I am exhilarated:-P

My Shoe Collection #43

Below: Another Club 21 purchase from 2 weeks ago...

Below: For a pair of shoe this price, the packaging sure looks cheap:-(

Below: Fortunately the contents more than make up for the cheap packaging...
Introducing my new Comme Des Garcon Pony Hair 'Leopard Print' Slip-ons!

Below: Love that streak of wild adventure with these cool shoes...

Below: More like 'Snow leopard' than the brown 'African leopard'..

Below: Hairy but happy feet anyone?

Below: SA told me this is pony hair, but it seems it's leather or fabric?!?!
Who cares...I just love these cute shoes!

Comme Des Garcons Pony Hair 'Leopard Print' Slip-ons

Since I am recently on a 'leopard print' fascination, I have been constantly on the look out for more leopard print pieces which could add to the look. So naturally when I first saw this pair of gorgeous Comme Des Garcons Pony Hair 'Leopard Print' Slip-ons at the Club 21 mens, Bangkok, it was instantly a love at first sight. The pair I saw then was of a brown colour which resembles the real leopard colour ways. I knew Bangkok luxury retailers impose exorbitant mark ups on any designer goods, hence I held back my lust and waited patiently till I am back in Singapore to get it.

As expected, prices are cheaper in Singapore and Club 21 mens, Four Seasons Hotel even have 2 variants to choose from:-) At first, I was insistent on getting the brown version which I saw at Club 21 Bangkok, but my size ran out in the Singapore store and I had to contemplate getting this white coloured version. I did not want to make an impulsive decision since the shoes are more 'expensive' than I expect them to be so I walked away to avoid another 'white elephant' in my wardrobe.

After a week of contemplation and not being able to get the shoe out of my mind, I am convinced I want the shoes. Because of the more unconventional leopard print colour ways, I can see it working with summer wardrobes next season. The shoe design definitely can go a long way instead of just being a seasonal piece. It's also a touch of wild 'safari' fun which is quirky and adds a sense of African adventure. Having so many positive reasons to justify my purchase, I went back to Club 21 mens store that weekend and brought back this beauty home (thankfully my size is still available. These shoes are all come available at one piece per size!).

Was told by the SA that the shoe is made from pony hair, which explains the 'higher' pricing. A very comfortable slip on style that you can wear with shorts or rolled up pants. The furry texture together with the leopard print gives an exotic charm and is casual for the weekends but luxurious enough for a fun night out. Next holiday destination...Africa?!?!?

Retail price: SGD $685. Where to buy: Club 21 Mens, Four Seasons Hotel
